Skype and Google Venture Into Wireless

" Google and Internet telephony company Skype have invested in a startup firm that specializes in software geared toward turning home wireless routers into WiFi hotspots.

Along with venture capitalists from Index Ventures and Sequoia Capital, the companies have infused money into FON, a Spanish start-up founded only three months ago by Internet entrepreneur Martin Varvarsy.

The funding announcement was made just months after Varvarsy made a whirlwind visit of Silicon Valley.
